State: The open door policy

Case Study State

How could we tell New Zealand about State’s awesome home insurance – without adding to the waste in the world? We turned ruined into rad, creating something useful which was likely to hang around for a lot longer…

Introducing the open door policy

To persuade homeowners, home movers and soon-to-be-first homeowners to switch their home insurance to State, we invited potential customers to open their homes to us – by sending them a door stop with a difference.

We used timber from homes that would otherwise have been discarded, and repurposed it into beautiful, useful wooden doorstops in the State brand colours – that were 100% environmentally sustainable.

To create the doorstops, we partnered with local Hawke’s Bay business Stim to skilfully breathe new life into the wood, lovingly painting over 500 doorstops by hand.

Welcome results

Not only did State smash their targets, but there are now reminders of the State brand holding doors open across the country. Proving that, in the right hands, even the most humble direct mail piece can become a masterpiece!
